Erwin smiles. "My thanks master dwarf and you are welcome to use my smithy. Unfortunately no, there's no powder in town. We're a pretty far back and so while we could afford powder there's a lot of other things that we have to have that the money goes to."

He stands. "I'd like to discuss defenses with you. We've talked about building fortifications and we have plenty of carpenters and loggers. But the nearest woods have been infested with beastmen and lately the Asrai have been in the woods and people are afraid to leave town because of what roves the countryside."

He walks back to the bar and takes another keg. "We'll drink this at the smithy."

Erwin looks carefully at all of you and nods politely to Celebriel as she walks in. "I wonder if you would care to meet me at the smithy later on. My house is above it and I think we should talk in private about what happened. I can repair your gear and then I would like to come with you to Wurmburg."

"My gear doesn't need much repair, since i wasn't caught in the fight, thou my sword could use some sharpening. And if you could make me some metal bullets for my sling I would appreciate it, just from whatever waste metals you got. They pack a bit more punch than those of stone."

Lathori responded to the knight, "I hail from the great forest of Athel Loren and I roam the known world scouting and if possible slaying any potential threats to our forested home." After giving the knight a concise answer, Nymrathil finally emerged from the woods and made a spry leap onto the back of Lathori's steed as the group prepared to move to the nearest town. Though this band seems unreliable and hastily thrown together, they do seem to be on the trail of a sinister threat... With that though, Lathori followed the group to the town which they were headed and set up camp on the forest's edge, while Nymrathil stealthily climbed into the highest level of a human hut.

Plucking the arrow from the side of the rabbit, Lathori licked his lips in anticipation. While the humans, dwarf, and halfling contented themselves upon the culinary prowess of the halfling, Lathori much preferred food off the land. Slitting the rabbits belly and skinning the creature in one forceful tug, he began to cook the choicest chunks of flesh over a small fire, while preparing wild berries to dress the meat in. After eating Lathori sat under the shade of an oak tree, taking a few gulps of wine from his wineskin and waiting diligently for any happenings in town.

While waiting for people to get ready to go back to the other village, Afuna took a trip around the settlement, letting the battle hardened people talk about defenses, and letting the smith sharpening his sword.
And was good to just have a slow walk, no hurries and no immediate worries. It was good to see that children was still playing and laughing, all being imaginary heroes against evil creatures. Several was staring, probably first time ever they had seen a halfling.
It was a good walk for the soul, preparing for the horrors of today's travel back after the knights sword.

Erwin nods. "Of course Master Halfling I certainly get you some bullets."

Erwin walks on to his smithy and hums a cheerfully as he begins repairing various items of gear. Some just needed new straps or tightening, others needed careful and time consuming work to repair (OOC: Do you really want to be bored with an in-depth description of metal-working? ;P I'm also going to assume you chose to sharpen your weapons, what with them being yours and all ;))

At last Erwin placed the final bit of gear on the rack and went up to his room after taking another hearty swig of the ale. A few minutes later he emerged in a fine mail haubergon with a warhammer at his belt.

"Well, we don't have much time and I think we should out of town, shall we?"

OOC: If you're going back to Wurmburg now would be the time.

The daemoness smiled and stroked the kitten that appeared in her hand, and streched across the bed, licking her lips and making her proposition. "As tempting as an offer as that is, I have already promised myself to the Lady of the Lake," Jean began, "And secondly I trust that whatever happens at Karak, no matter how bad or good, she will see me through it. Now if there is nothing else I desire sleep, go run along and find another play thing."

With that Jean slept until the next morning, absent thoughts of what had just transpired. He went down stairs to the smell of a beautiful breakfast, one that included a variety of crackling sausages, cheese, bread, stew, milk and Jean's personal favourite, wine. Already, most of the band was downstairs digging in, so Jean quickly ran down to grab a large portion of everything he could get. He then took a seat next to the high elf ranger.

The breakfast was beyond anything he had ever had before. He spoke to the man across the bar, "My complements to the chef." Only to see the halfling shoot around the bar with a cooking apron on. He laughed to himself, trust a hobbit to make a delicious meal. He nodded to Afuna in respect.

He looked around the room at the others. He was glad to see that the dwarf was in a good mood, probably due to the breakfast and ale before him. The halfling then came up to their table, "I also found this young ghost elf outside the knights quarters, is she one of youre companions? She hasnt said much yet, think she fainted at the sight at our nightly visitor."

The companions looked at Jean, he finished the food down his throat so he could address the group, "Don't look at me my good friends. I've not been travelling around with an elf behind your backs, nor am I the type of gentleman to kick her out of my room for the night. But perhaps we could ask the others if they know her."

The door opened and a large man, obviously a blacksmith came in and ordered a keg for their table. “Make it myself, I think even you Master Dawi will enjoy this.” He then raised a toast to which even Jean joined in.

Jean could tell now looking at the man’s features and stance that he was a very experienced man when it came to weaponry. Probably a long retired soldier or watchman of this town.

His beard lifts as he grin's cheerfully and then fades. "Now. To business. They tell you've come to defend the town. I think that defending us was the last thing on your mind. But I know that if you wish to keep going you'll need to stay here until those. . . things are gone. Name's Erwin by the way, you know as well as I do that this town is ready to die. We have no fortifications, and nothing in a the way of troops. We've never needed them. I tried to get the council to form some but they never listened."

“Pleasure to meet you Erwin, the name’s Jean.”

He reaches behind his beard and digs a massive pendant from the front of his tunic. It bears the symbols of the Knights of the Empire and one of the Inner Circle no less. "I used to be one of them. . . A long time ago and I mean a long time."He stands adruptly, "You'd best come to the smithy and get your gear repaired. And I'll tell you how it got this way."

“It would be greatly appreciated Erwin, my armour is slightly dented from our previous encounters with those things,” Jean stated, “However, if you insist on doing it while we are gone, I would like to keep it with me while retrieving the sword and elven remains, just in case we run into difficulties. There are only a few dents here and there.”

The group was then met by an elven maiden who approached the table, one of mystic beauty and slim body. "I would accompany whoever will travel back to find the elf, there are things I need to find out in that town," She smiles slightly, it is clear her face is not used to smiling often, "And I do not need the blacksmith, it is safer to travel in a group, no?"

"I would be ready after breakfast, I need to eat to return my strength, and it would be a crime to not eat the wonderful food the halfling has prepared, perhaps you would tell me your names, mine is Celebriel. It is a pleasure to meet you all."

This must be the elf the Halfling was talking about, Jean thought to himself. “It is a pleasure to meet you too mi’lday,” Jean began taking her hand and kissing it in the most polite Bretonnian manner he knew, “My name is Jean O’Connor, a knight from Brettonia, and I will journey with you back to the town and help find the elf remains. I already made a promise to him...”

He then went upstairs to take a hot bath and have his clothes cleaned. He then placed his padding on for his under armour and placed his armour and cloth on him. He picked up his helmet and weapons and headed down towards the stables.

However when he got down it seemed that everyone was content in having their armour repaired. Jean toured with the group the outskirts of the town listening on how they needed defences here and there. As much of a pleasure Jean took from looking to help others, he was no engineer and he was not here to save this town but complete the quest they were sent upon. When they got to the blacksmith, Jean had the simple dents in his armour knocked out. The scrapes he didn’t mind, and his weaponry was fine.

Afterwards the blacksmith came downstairs in armour and carrying a warhammer. “Well we don’t have much time and I think we should out of town, shall we?”

Jean agreed with a nod, mounting his horse and leading the group back the way they came to Wurmburg.

Erwin walks with you in silence for some time. When you're halfway there he starts to talk:

"A while back we had a Lord. The man's name was Ulrich and he served with me on the Sea of Claws." Erwin points to the north. "He left the order shortly after and built a castle. Life went on, Ulrich rarely came from his home and he sent his steward for anything important."

"But here's the rub, it's been two years since his steward came, and the old codger came so regularly you could set a clock by it. Now Ulrich had son by the name of Graf. Graf was nothing like his father. Small, scrawny, and sickly. But Graf was good at magic, if he'd gotten the training he could have easily reached the fourth level. But his father wouldn't permit it and Graf always resented that."

Erwin paused. "Thing is no one in town will hear anything bad about Graf. Which is odd enough for he never cared a lick about us."

"Now shortly before the creatures started walking around I rode up to the castle. Ulrich came out and invited me in. Things got stranger from there, I went up to my room and it was then I realized all the servants were gone. Ulrich was the only person I'd seen."

Erwin shivers. "I came down to eat and Graf and his mother were there. The lady was one of those women who could have been pretty but she hated this place and everyone in it. She wanted the fancy things of life you find in the capitol."

"Graf had grown, and I mean grown, I'd known taller women last time I saw him. But this time he was over six feet and he'd began to put on the muscle. But the conversation was odd. . . It was like they were talking to people who weren't there. And then they came in." Erwin shudders and his eyes take on a haunted look, "I'd never had the misfortune to meet one, but I knew a vampire when I saw one."

"They were polite enough although I think if they'd know I was former Inner Circle they might have become a lot less polite. But Graf and his family were vicious, I've seen cruelty but nothing like this. The odd thing was that Ulrich took it all without blinking an eye, he wasn't quite all there."

Erwin paused to spit. "And that was the last time I saw my friend. I didn't eat any of the food and I left for my room as soon as was polite. I got to bed but that was when the screaming started, it was muffled see, like the kind you hear through a gag. I got out of bed and that was when the screams stopped and I heard someone outside my door."

Erwin flexes one massive arm. "I knew it was one the vampires and so I took the poker from the fireplace and rammed it through the door and took the thing right in it's rotten heart. It was then that I took my leave. I ran like a frightened child and rode one of the horses to death to get back home. What connection there is with what you told me and what's happened lately I don't know but I will find out."

By the end of Erwin's disturbing narrative you can Wurmburg in the distance.

Where it all began and where hopefully you will find answers.

"Vampires" Afuna mumbled under his breath, as wurmburg started to appear in the horizon. "This does not bode well, remind me to get my weapons blessed by a priest of Sigmar, if we ever come across one." Afuna said to the group, watching there reaction to the blacksmiths tale.

Vandurian walked quietly listening to the blacksmith's tale. He had changed his mind at about staying and hoped that it would not cause complications. When the tale reached the part about Graf's evil his muscles unconsciously tensed, coiling tight before slowly returning to a resting state. Any who looked at his downcast eyes though, could see the smolder of the fire that lay behind them and perceive his readiness for action.

You travel on in silence.

The sun is shining, old trees perch invitingly on hill covered in green. A gentle breeze blows on your faces and a few songbirds fly past.

Then you see Wurmburg.

The town looks like it did when you entered, even the gates have been repaired. You stop at the open gates and see an empty street.

OOC: Enter if you dare

Afuna prepared his sword and buckler, remembering the lack of effect from his sling in the flight from the village. He entered as stealthy as he could and took to the shadows to the right. All senses on heightened alert and waiting for the others to enter.

Vandurian held his sword loosely in his left hand, his right brushing against a building as he followed the small halfling pass the gate and into the village. Bright sunlight streams down into the crooked road illuminating the cobblestones with its brilliance yet the lack of homely sounds and village noises is almost as disturbing as it was when they had come at night.

Celebriel rushed forwards when they saw the town of wurmburg, keeping to the shrubs for cover she moved stealthily up to the wall. She began to scale the wall but the going was tough. As she was sturggiling up she wondered why she was here. When the humans had mentioned Wurmburg she immediately had a sensation of pure rightnous (It's a word!). When she got over she began to look around for any sign of the knights sword. She would search for it rooftop to rooftop looking into the street as she thought she had a better chance of not being surprised by the undead.

(OOC: Come back! Don't let it die *Wails dramatically* )

As you move through the scrupulously clean town you start to relax, there won't be any fights for survival, just gathering information.

And you see the shattered remains of a swordmaster, the mangled corpse has been draped over the fountain, dried blood is splashed everywhere and judging by the holes the creatures feasted on him. You just hope it was after he died.

And laying in the street you see the elf's sword.

Seeing Etrian's body hanging from the fountain, Alessandro instantly knew that some dark magic held sway over the town. Doubtless the undead creatures were still here, but he struggled to believe that the ghouls had displayed Etrian's body like this. Even more difficult to believe was that the ghouls had cleaned up the town after themselves...

Taking care not to take his eyes from roving the town for signs of life, Alessandro slung his crossbow over his back and drew his sword. Even though it was daylight, it paid to be careful...

Afuna felt like throwing up, seeing the elf displayed like that.

The sight of a hanging elf was retched. The sword they had returned for was laying on the ground though, and at the halflings bidding to scout Vandurian began to head for the inn were all the trouble began.

OCC: The sword is the knights, Van has the elfs sword at the moment.

Burlock:

"For a Manling, this Erwin really knows how to keep a smithy" Burlock Thought to himself as he sweated shirtless between the furnace and the anvil. He skillfully mended his armour and weapons. Sharpening his throwing axes and oiling and polishing his hammer and armor.
Then he starts to work on some special bolts for his Crossbow. He makes a couple of bolts with hooks, some with lines of wire attached and a grapplinghook fit to be launched from the Crossbow. Along with some bolts designed to be lit on fire and some with hollow orbs on the tip, designed to be loaded with Blackpowder when he could get hold of some. And as a little extra trick he takes a piece of a special metal he has bin saving (IRL NATRIUM). He has found that pieces of this metal in water causes an explosion and alot of smoke. He fixes the entire piece on a Crossbowbolt and carefully wraps it in oiled, watertight, leater. "this might come in handy" he thought

As the dwarf works in the smithy, thoroughly enjoying himself, he ponders on how to make some defences. He figures that this smithy might be the best place to make fortification or maybe there is another good place.

Burlock desides to take a strawl through the town to see what he can do with it, aswell as looking for material.

OOC: I need some GM help here, as i dont know what there is to find. And also I'm back, but it might be better for me to jump in as soon as the group is together again :)

Celebriel advanced cautiously towards the square. She had heard of the Swordmaster from the members of the party. She swiftly raised an arrow pointing it at the swordmaster. She had no wish to fight a live one let alone a dead one. As the group moved closer she wondered what they were planning to do. She didn't really have any ideas, and she most certainly didn't want to do the wrong thing.

Afuna fought down the feeling of throwing up, and cautiously approached the dead elf. Wondering why the body of the elf had been left alone, since everything else had been removed.
Looking very closely for boobytraps, things out of the ordinary and generally alert to any movement or changes in the air. Well aware of any sign of trouble, the elves would react very fast to it.
Hoping the Knight would have the patience to wait for a clear sign before approaching his sword.

Burlock:

Lets see what we can do about this plage he said as he walked past a guard house of some sort. The house was made of stone and as shoddy as you would expect from manling masonry, the dwarf figured that this would be the best place to make fortifications. He laid out the tools and material he had found and set to work. He fitted steel meshes which he had made in the smithy to the windows, which luckily wasn't too many. He also fitted the doors with steel fortifications, before he started to dig a trench around the building. A few men stopped to watch and have a chat. Still in a good mood after the good ale and the joy of smithwork the dwarf chatted and by a short time a handful of able-bodied townsmen where at work under his guidance. When the ditch was done he hammered steel stakes down into the bottom aroun then he covered the ditch with branches and leaves soaked in oil. This. Aftr that he went to the roof to assemble the raisin in the sausage that he had bin working on. A large crossbowlike contraption able to fife up to several heavy bolts. " hope Erwin won't mind me using all this metal" he thought. Well well. If there is any place to garrison for an assault around here this would be it. Then he went to get more of the smiths ale and chat with people while waiting for the others to return.
