The daemoness smiled and stroked the kitten that appeared in her hand, and streched across the bed, licking her lips and making her proposition. "As tempting as an offer as that is, I have already promised myself to the Lady of the Lake," Jean began, "And secondly I trust that whatever happens at Karak, no matter how bad or good, she will see me through it. Now if there is nothing else I desire sleep, go run along and find another play thing."
With that Jean slept until the next morning, absent thoughts of what had just transpired. He went down stairs to the smell of a beautiful breakfast, one that included a variety of crackling sausages, cheese, bread, stew, milk and Jean's personal favourite, wine. Already, most of the band was downstairs digging in, so Jean quickly ran down to grab a large portion of everything he could get. He then took a seat next to the high elf ranger.
The breakfast was beyond anything he had ever had before. He spoke to the man across the bar, "My complements to the chef." Only to see the halfling shoot around the bar with a cooking apron on. He laughed to himself, trust a hobbit to make a delicious meal. He nodded to Afuna in respect.
He looked around the room at the others. He was glad to see that the dwarf was in a good mood, probably due to the breakfast and ale before him. The halfling then came up to their table, "I also found this young ghost elf outside the knights quarters, is she one of youre companions? She hasnt said much yet, think she fainted at the sight at our nightly visitor."
The companions looked at Jean, he finished the food down his throat so he could address the group, "Don't look at me my good friends. I've not been travelling around with an elf behind your backs, nor am I the type of gentleman to kick her out of my room for the night. But perhaps we could ask the others if they know her."
The door opened and a large man, obviously a blacksmith came in and ordered a keg for their table. “Make it myself, I think even you Master Dawi will enjoy this.” He then raised a toast to which even Jean joined in.
Jean could tell now looking at the man’s features and stance that he was a very experienced man when it came to weaponry. Probably a long retired soldier or watchman of this town.
His beard lifts as he grin's cheerfully and then fades. "Now. To business. They tell you've come to defend the town. I think that defending us was the last thing on your mind. But I know that if you wish to keep going you'll need to stay here until those. . . things are gone. Name's Erwin by the way, you know as well as I do that this town is ready to die. We have no fortifications, and nothing in a the way of troops. We've never needed them. I tried to get the council to form some but they never listened."
“Pleasure to meet you Erwin, the name’s Jean.”
He reaches behind his beard and digs a massive pendant from the front of his tunic. It bears the symbols of the Knights of the Empire and one of the Inner Circle no less. "I used to be one of them. . . A long time ago and I mean a long time."He stands adruptly, "You'd best come to the smithy and get your gear repaired. And I'll tell you how it got this way."
“It would be greatly appreciated Erwin, my armour is slightly dented from our previous encounters with those things,” Jean stated, “However, if you insist on doing it while we are gone, I would like to keep it with me while retrieving the sword and elven remains, just in case we run into difficulties. There are only a few dents here and there.”
The group was then met by an elven maiden who approached the table, one of mystic beauty and slim body. "I would accompany whoever will travel back to find the elf, there are things I need to find out in that town," She smiles slightly, it is clear her face is not used to smiling often, "And I do not need the blacksmith, it is safer to travel in a group, no?"
"I would be ready after breakfast, I need to eat to return my strength, and it would be a crime to not eat the wonderful food the halfling has prepared, perhaps you would tell me your names, mine is Celebriel. It is a pleasure to meet you all."
This must be the elf the Halfling was talking about, Jean thought to himself. “It is a pleasure to meet you too mi’lday,” Jean began taking her hand and kissing it in the most polite Bretonnian manner he knew, “My name is Jean O’Connor, a knight from Brettonia, and I will journey with you back to the town and help find the elf remains. I already made a promise to him...”
He then went upstairs to take a hot bath and have his clothes cleaned. He then placed his padding on for his under armour and placed his armour and cloth on him. He picked up his helmet and weapons and headed down towards the stables.
However when he got down it seemed that everyone was content in having their armour repaired. Jean toured with the group the outskirts of the town listening on how they needed defences here and there. As much of a pleasure Jean took from looking to help others, he was no engineer and he was not here to save this town but complete the quest they were sent upon. When they got to the blacksmith, Jean had the simple dents in his armour knocked out. The scrapes he didn’t mind, and his weaponry was fine.
Afterwards the blacksmith came downstairs in armour and carrying a warhammer. “Well we don’t have much time and I think we should out of town, shall we?”
Jean agreed with a nod, mounting his horse and leading the group back the way they came to Wurmburg.
