Only because GW stayed up late at night thinking of ways to justify their existence.

GW guy:

Hey guys look!

GW Staff: Woo mama! She hoooott!

GW Staff: . . . Um, I'm not sure what we could do with them besides keep them under our beds. And that's not profitable.

GW guy: I know! We can slip them into the canon and add some rules.

GW Staff: Good Idea!

Gullible GW customer: Woo mama! She hoooott! *Proceeds to make GW a ton of money*
Yes I am a High Elf on an Asrai Board. Deal with it. ; ) Also the board's resident heavy cavalry nut.

Winged Hussar. Thats true for the entire range of GW minis. In fact warhammer was created for the sole purpose of giving people something to do with their minis

Think of it. Hordes of half naked macho muscle men is targeted at the gay crowd.
The teenie goths got their own range of vampire minis to replay their favorite Twilight moments.
Reenacting cosplayers got empire.
Lizards for dinolovers.
Those with a penchant for medieval romance can go arthurian on the brets.
High elves in dresses for for crossdressers to live out their fantasies.
etc.
etc.

There is an army for every sexual deviation out there - or maybe its all just plain old fun ;)

True, in fact right after I posted that. I realized that was pretty true for all GW mini's.

Now, back on topic.

*Waves back on topic hammer*

You know all these ideas (the serious ones anyway) have made me think of doing some sort of group fluff project where the elves do what we talked about, hmmmm. :paranoid: )

My first action would be the start of an college of engineers. The superior elven mind should be able to start a renaissance if they were not relying on the old ways too heavily. The use of those new innovations could help defend the land against druchii invasions. They could also be sold the Empire (and maybe Cathay) for a decent prize. This is boosts the economy but is also helps to form a blockade against the northern wastelands.
Furthermore the mages of the tower of hoeth should start a study on how to make the population more reproductive. A decent study of the lore of live could help with that. I would also encourage the citizen to have more children. Tax advantages can help with that.
I would also send small infiltration teams (shadow warriors and swordmasters) towards Naggoroth. The goal would be to arouse a slave rebellion. That way those dark elves get raided without a great risk of losses.
Usefull things about the navy have already been said so let's not dwell on that for now.
Politically, I would try to (personally) approach both the asrai and the dwarfs.
I would indeed recognize Athel Loren as a sovereign state. I would also propose an exchange program between swordmaster and wardancers. This could have a positive effect on the skill of these elite warriors. For the elves cannot win wars by strength in numbers. Only skill on the field can produce victories.
As for the dwarfs, I would personally go to Thorgrim Grudgebearer and try to make amends for mistakes made in the past. Explaining what happened during the sundering could help with that. I would not ask to get the phoenix crown back. I would simply try to reopen trade between dwarves and the asur. The subject of the war of the beard is way too sensitive for the dwarves to just give the crown back. Relations would have to be rebuild.

But isn't that what a human king would do? it's hard to grasp an elven mind.

My first order would be to attempt cutting through the various clutter of millenia-old politics and streamline the high-elven political system. This would fail, pathetically, as the noble houses would make absolutely sure to make it understood that just because I'm the phoenix king, that doesn't mean I have any real political power.

I would the proceed, well justified in thinking my office irrelevant, to lead a reign of very little action on my own part, letting the highborn who felt suicidal enough for it grasp for power, serving as a ceremonial figurehead in the meantime - and using whatever little influence I might have after mutering the combined elven houses against me to make my centuries on the throne pleasant ones.

In my free time, I might pass the time "improving" the obviously ceremonial armor of the high elves, gradually making all impractical elements even bigger (those helms need to be bigger than the elf!), citing a need to underline of proud traditions. Then, bitter and powerless, I could at least have a good laugh while my "loyal" subjects try to actually fight wearing the utterly silly attrocities I've requisitioned for them.
Finally, I'd make sure to needlessly complicate as many social practices as possible with no other justification than claiming that we, being distinguished and civilised creatures, should strive to structure absolutely everything; failing to do so would make us little better than the lesser races.

Chances are, once all of this gets going, I won't be the Phoenix King much longer; provided I survive this change, I could then laugh at the next elf trying to make a difference.

Huzzaahs for Hjiryon for continuing a long and fine tradition of steady decline. He is truely the epitome of elfdom and the most worthy
