Yevliane's Host of Shimmering Bark - 2000 points, need help!

Postby Christars » July 31st, 2010, 20:0

So, dear everyone, here is the second of my two "I have to beat (my own) Chaos Warriors with this list or my friend is quitting Wood Elves"-lists. (It's true!)

In my first list I was obsessed with shooting, but here, I wish to demonstrate to my friend the importance of precise, well-timed and brilliantly executed charges (which I really hope I can manage to do, me normally playing Warriors of Chaos or Tyranids, more or less always happily pouncing anything in certitude that I'll mash 'em).

Here goes!

Lord
Yevliane Evergreen
Spellweaver
Lvl 4, Lore of Life
Glamourweave Kindred
Unicorn
Wand of Wych Elm, Talisman of Preservation (4+ Ward Save)
Total: 435 points

Saaethr Wildwhirl

Blades of Loec, Potion of Foolhardiness (One Use, +1 Attack when charging)
Total: 145 points

Wild Rider Kindred
Elven Steed
The Spear of Twilight, The Helm of the Hunt

7 Wardancers, Musician, Bladesinger
Total: 147 points

Special

9 Wild RIders, Musician, Wild Hunter, Standard Bearer, Razor Banner (Armour Piercing attacks)

Special
The Barking Mad
6 Tree Kin, Tree Kin Ancient
Total: 410 points

Rare
The Fist of the Shimmering Grove
Treeman
Total: 285 points

Grand Total: 2411 points

So, as you see, I've gone quite a bit over. Any ideas as to what should stay and what should go? (I have this feeling that the 6-strong Tree Kin unit will be mentioned in the latter category...)

Also, any ideas whatsoever about increasing effectiveness? Anything at all would be appreciated, as would tips about how to get a good lunch if you're stuck in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness with only your trousers and a plastic knife.

Ok i like many of the option you picked.

I would drop the Unicorn and the glamor weave on the Weaver as you do not want here in comabt.
For me drop the Branch wraiths in the dryads and one more or even them to 10 each. For 12 points O would rather have a extra body 2 attacts then one with 1 more attack.

Treekin are a keeper but lose the Elder enless you are putting the Noble Wildrider wilth the unit. This unit with proper support is you keey to killing WoC. It is your Anvil and hammer in one.

Treeman as well.

Wardancer drop the noble and the Bladesinger and take 8 dancer with a Muisian.

WW smallunit of 5 if you have the points.

Use your free tree to your best advantage to breack his steadfast in trees.

I seen your other post and like your thoughts and play style ideas look forward to hearing how it turns out.

Hm... I admit, I ended up putting A LOT of points in the Spellweaver's protection (the Unicorn, with Magic Resistance (2), now being a cavalry mount rather than a monster, would give the Spellweaver a 2+ Ward Save against magic). How's this: Put her on an ordinary steed, give her the Dragonbane Gem (2+ Ward Save against Flaming Attacks; my favourite thing against Warriors of Chaos is that, especially against Wood Elves, all of their ranged attacks are probably going to be Lore of Fire spells...), MAYBE Glamourweave (5+ Ward Save in case some nasty Marauder Horsemen get too close) then plonk her next to the Wild Riders for the 4+ Look Out Sir! rolls.

If so, I've still got 40 points left. Hail of Doom Arrow for the sake of it?

Or, if you really think I should drop the Wardancer Noble (why? He's a great character killer, and really adds some teeth to a unit that would never hold up in a fair frontal charge and is too immobile to really be a wonderful flanker), I could take a BSB with Aysendi's Bane and Hail of Doom Arrow.

Question: How many small (read: Wood Elf size) bases can you get into base contact with 5 "bigger" bases (read: Warriors of Chaos size). Me only playing Warriors of Chaos means I don't have a single small base... I could perhaps see if I could find some of my brother's Skeletons... but?

Why specifically would I put my Noble Wild Rider there? In that case, wouldn't a Great Stag be better? Also, if so, should I lose one Treeman? (Even if they fall, with Regrowth, the unit becomes rather impressive... even if he takes Lore of Fire)

With Treeman as well... I'm assuming you meant "Keep him as well"?

I certainly don't have the points for a single Waywatcher.

Sorry i was kind of sleepy in that last post.

the wardance noble for me dies to fast, a lord is nasty and worth taking.
T he Wardancer are known as a Glass Hammer the almost never Should in the front. That is the Job of the tree Kin.
Wardancer are like fast cav in there movement in that they can reform all they want so have them flank the treekin or treeman.
As the secound charger or counter charger they work great.

Here is a combo you may want to think about if you want to do a frontal attack with wardancer. it is risky works best with 2 lvl 3 beast weaver to make sure you get the spell.
But i Run two weavers one life, one beast. I have always one the Number 6 spell on beast. Run the the weaver with the scroll that gives you irrisistable and miscast onany doubles to makes sure it goes off. pick the biggest baddest unit the enemy has and charge it in the flank preferably, but frontal is ok. Magic phase transform in to the mountian Chiamiea.( I did is to a 18 unit of Minatares with a treeman as back up and broke them in one round.)This risk is getting the spell off it works best comboing with other units like wood elves do.

Keep the Treeman he will be a star for you.
Taking a noble on a stag with Glitering scales and fimblewinter shard and add him to a treekin unit is a nasty surprise.

Huhn. The fun thing is, my friend tried to do exactly this the last two times we played: Charge with his Weaver, then throw six dice, using the Power Scroll and hoping everything would be fine.

First time he just failed (for some other reason, don't remember exactly what happened). The second battle, he rolled 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Seriously. No doubles (though it DID actually go through, but he was, sadly, defeated!)

The Wardancers were never meant to be in front! But you might be right, as a flanking unit they might not really need a character.

Wouldn't the Fimbulwinter Shard be a rather bad idea, since it would make the Treekin Stupid? Also, wouldn't it be a better idea to just get An Annoyance of Netlings, since this guy WILL end up in a duel anyhow? But then, what would happen to his Killing Blow? I really fancy the Killing Blow... and I might need a good character hunter, especially in 2000 (in truth, the Wardancer character was something of the same, hoping to get a nice charge in, challenging then dancing Killing Blow, re-rolling to wound).

I also fancy I should be taking a Great Eagle, as it can pop behind a unit and charge them in the rear, adding nicely to my combat resolution even if it takes a wound or two.
