"What Minis I Got" List

Postby Galadrin » July 30th, 2010, 15:0

Here is an army list based on what minis I got, which are in turn based on what minis I found "cool looking" in a 1996 GW catalog when I dropped my first $100 on this hobby. Mind you, I hadn't ever seen a game at that point...

Spellweaver (Hail of Doom Arrow) - 245

10 Glade Guard - 120
10 Glade Guard - 120
5 Scouts - 85
5 Scouts - 85
10 Dryads - 120

18 Eternal Guard (Full Command) - 246
3 Treekin - 195

1 Treeman - 285

Total - 1,501

Whadya think? Any obvious flaws? Would you rate this list poor?

Poor? No.

Room for improvement? Yes.

There's better gear than HoDA for a Weaver. BS4 just doesn't cut it when you look at the alternatives. I would take a Lifeweaver at 1.5k (model is the same).

Add musicians to your GG. The potentially free reform is very nice.

Bring the Dryads down to an eight man team. Add another if you find the room.

Drop the EG.

Add at least one Treekin to that unit.

An Eagle for Warmachine hunting.

And presto, you should have what I would consider a viable list.

Thanks for the comments! I was thinking Life myself, it's an amazing lore. I just haven't found any character other than Spellweavers (with Life or Beast) to be of any use in 8th edition. Maybe in highly specialized army lists, but still. Granted, the Treeman Ancient with 50 points of Spites could be pretty brutal in a 1,500 point list (take another Treeman as a rare and you have some heavy hitters for that size of battle).

Hail of Doom arrow is still amazing, even at BS4, at just 30 points. It's pretty much guaranteed to drop a small handful of potentially expensive models off the table. I really can't justify ever taking a Noble or a Highborn, unless the list were tailored to suit them, so the only way to get Hail of Doom is with the Spellweaver. I do agree, however, that there could be some even more powerful magic items to take on a Spellweaver. What do you suggest in particular?

Good advice about the musicians. With musicians, the Glade Guards could move 5" every turn and shoot without penalty, all with 1 free reform, right?

I see a lot of 4 model Treekin units. What is the advantage? Presumably it is to have a 2x2 formation, but could you just have a 2-1 formation with 3 models?

How about giving your weaver a wand of wych elm (55 pts) and/or a divinion orb(25)

The wand allows you to reroll dispell atempts.

The orb gives a free dispel die when your opponent uses three or more power dice to cast the spell.

Use the two in a combination and you can completly frustrate the magic of you opponent. I used this against a magic heavy dark elf player in the 7th edition. it works like a dream. My bet is that it would work in 1500 pts setup as well.
